Shehu Sani Calls for EFCC Investigation into El-Rufai's Governance in Kaduna State (2026)

A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has ignited a fiery debate with his recent call for a thorough investigation into the tenure of ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai. In a bold move, Sani urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to delve into the eight years of El-Rufai's administration, citing allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of power, and a trail of hardship left in its wake.

"The EFCC must take swift action and ensure a comprehensive inquiry into these serious allegations. No individual, regardless of their position, should be exempt from the reach of the law," Sani emphasized during a press conference in Kaduna.

But here's where it gets controversial... Sani painted a picture of a state in turmoil, with demolitions, rising insecurity, and policies that burdened ordinary citizens. He questioned El-Rufai's democratic credentials, alleging the arrest and detention of journalists, activists, clerics, and community leaders during his administration.

"Between 2015 and 2023, Kaduna faced immense challenges. The era under El-Rufai's leadership was one of the most difficult in our state's history," he asserted.

Sani also urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to solve the disappearance of political activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, who has been missing since 2019. He argued that addressing such unresolved cases is crucial for justice and accountability.

However, El-Rufai has consistently refuted these allegations, maintaining that his administration's reforms aimed to enhance governance and fiscal discipline in Kaduna State.

The senator's remarks come in response to El-Rufai's recent criticism of the current administration during an interview on Arise TV. Sani pointed out the apparent contradiction, highlighting El-Rufai's active role in campaigning for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections.

"It's political inconsistency to market a candidate as the best choice and then attack the very government you helped bring to power."

Sani further claimed that El-Rufai's political influence had waned before leaving office, citing the ruling party's performance in certain parts of Kaduna during the last general elections. He praised the current Governor Uba Sani for improvements in security, particularly the reduction in kidnappings, and encouraged residents to support ongoing peace initiatives.

As the political landscape shifts towards 2027, Sani declared his support for Tinubu and Sani, emphasizing that Nigerians should have the right to choose leaders based on their competence, integrity, and commitment to national unity.

This story raises important questions: Should past administrations be held accountable for their actions, even after leaving office? Can political inconsistencies be overlooked if they lead to positive outcomes? Join the discussion and share your thoughts in the comments!
